Shakti Sikkim Village Houses, Sikkim | Luxury Holidays in India | AsianGeographicalAdventures.com

Shakti Sikkim offers three separate village houses, set in the Himalayan State of Sikkim, in northeast India. All are authentic local houses, now refurbished to provide boutique homestays for guests who like to take short treks through its cardamom and tea plantation fields and higher through the pine forested ridges. Located in the heart of rural Sikkim, these remote village houses offer an opportunity to experience local Himalayan culture and get off the beaten track.

The three Shakti Sikkim Houses are carefully located around villages with great views of the valley and the surrounds. Inside, the rooms are furnished with comfortable beds with fine linen and duck-down duvets and wood-burning stoves to warm the rooms on chilly nights. Ensuite bathrooms have modern facilities and though simple in design, it more than makes up with the hosts overwhelming hospitality. Each house can accommodate 4-6 people and are occupied independently by a group.

Meals at the Shakti Sikkim Village House are home cooked with a focus on Indian and Tibetan cuisine with some western dishes. During the day, guests can travel to the surrounding village or to the next Village House where your luggage is transported by the porters. The walks are accompanied by local guides who are conversant with local flora and fauna, and will fill you with the regions history and customs. This tour can be easily combined with three nights at Glenburn Tea Estate, Darjeeling.

Stay Shakti Sikkim features just three Village Houses in the hills of the Sikkim Himalayas. All the houses are built in traditional Sikkimese style; red tinned roofs with stone walls, but retain their own distinct character. Inside, rooms are furnished with dark wood floors, comfortable beds draped in fine linen, fluffy duvets and warm pashmina throws. Ensuite bathrooms are pleasingly modern and have hot showers. Open spaces in front provide a wonderful sitting area for breakfast with great vistas.

ChildCare Families with children over the age of 3 years are welcome to stay at Shakti Village Houses but there are no specific facilities available for children. However, children will enjoy the open surroundings exploring the surrounding flora and fauna.

Dine Meals at all of the Shakti Sikkim Village Houses are home cooked by local chefs, using locally sourced fresh ingredients. The menu is a mix of Indian, western and traditional Sikkimese cuisine with such favourites as momos (vegetable or meat stuffed dumplings), noodles, chicken, beef or pork curry with rice. Meals are accompanied with Indian branded drinks but worth trying is the local drink called ‘Tomba’ served in a bamboo pot, a potent brew of fermented millet.

Relax Guests at the Shakti Sikkim come to relax and take short day hikes to the neighbouring Village Houses, where their luggage is transported by the porters. All houses have open spaces in the front providing nice sitting areas to relax and just watching the surrounding landscape.

Experience Wedged between Bhutan, Nepal and Chinese-occupied Tibet, the Buddhist State of Sikkim is nestled in the heart of India’s Eastern Himalayan range. Set in its foothills are three Shakti Sikkim Village Houses, set on different ridgetops with great vistas of Mt Kanchenjunga, the third highest in the world. The houses offer great trekking opportunities in the surrounds and visits to the Buddhist town of Pemayangtse, the hill station near Darjeeling, and Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.

Location Located in the North East of the Indian sub continent, the Buddhist Kingdom of Sikkim is nestled in the heart of India’s Eastern Himalayan range. Shakti Sikkim is north of Darjeeling on the road to Gangtok.

Getting there Fly to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport, followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Bagdogra. Shaki Sikkim is a 5-hour drive from Bagdogra.

When to go Shakti Sikkim is open between April and November each year, though, the closing date can change from year to year depending on weather. Cold Winters in the months of November to February. It is between the month of March and early May when sunshine is quite abundant. Though summer is officially from May to October, Sikkim is almost always wet due to the heavy monsoons, with rains at times continuing for days on ends. September to October is Autumn.
